CANDIDATE FOR ONKAPARINGA 2022

My name is Debra Hocking and I have been nominated as a Councillor in the upcoming Onkaparinga Council Elections for the ward of Pimpala.

From 14th October 2022 everyone eligible to vote in these elections will receive a Postal Ballot in the mail.Debra Hocking

It will then be necessary for you to fill in your Ballot and post it off so it’s received no later than 10th November. Please allow at least 3 days for postage.

I have lived in the hills area since my early twenties, but have now been in the Onkaparinga area for the last 14 years and wouldn’t live anywhere else. I have two adult children and four grandchildren, who bring much joy to us all.

For 10 years I worked in aged care as part of a lifestyle team, working towards making a meaningful difference in people’s lives. One of my focus areas will be, increasing access and inclusion for all, by supporting our ageing population as well as singles and young families.

The past two years I have volunteered at the local Salvos, enjoying interaction with many in this community. Previously, I spent 28 years in an Adelaide Hills building company constructing additions and custom homes. I thrived on developing relationships with our customers and accommodating their needs.

I am passionate about the environment and my happy place is walking our beautiful parks and beaches or at home tending my garden and sharing my produce with family and friends.

In the role of Councillor, I would be an advocate for local needs and ensure that decisions are made to protect the environment and our green spaces.

I want to maintain the charm and liveability of our community by discouraging the constant urban infill, preserving our mature trees, repairing the roads and placing more rubbish bins in public areas.

A well overdue policy area, that I am passionate about, is creating a detailed council map of road and footpath deterioration with an aim to target all these areas for upgrades so we can enhance streetscapes and usability.

Our region is known for the beautiful hills, greenery and open spaces. I would hate to think that shabby roads will tarnish this image.
Instead of raising rates and taxes, I stand for increased efficiency of council by reducing wasteful spending and unnecessary bureaucracy. I can see that there are a lot of challengers for our future and some of these can be solved at a local level. Small local action can lead to wide-spread change.

If you vote for me, I will strive to invest in our future with improved services, facilities and infrastructure to support our residents.

I have teamed up with 11 other candidates in this election who believe like I do. We are all ordinary rate payers who love their community and if we are all elected we will have every opportunity to see these changes happen.

Have a look at our Action Plan

Yours sincerely
